"The company I used to work for was expanding rapidly last year, so they had to relocate to a new, larger office space. The new building had some really interesting architecture, most of the ceilings were inexplicably high and had lots of small windows near the roof. My coworker and I sat in cubicles that faced each other in an open area and above our desks was a bizarrely angled ceiling with a ledge built into the wall, about 15-20 feet high. Adjacent to this bizarro ledge was a massive beam that spanned the hall between our desk area and the office across the way. It was practically dividing the air space between our desks, as if it were the net in a game of ping-pong for giants. Um, you get the idea.
Anyway. Further down the hall from the beam-space was the office of several executives at our company. But did that stop us from inventing the Best. Game. Ever!? NO SIR! One day we were kinda bored and wondered how hard it would be to throw a pen up onto the beam and get it to stay. My compatriot was the thrower, I was the lookout.
After several tries the pen was lost forever and a new game was born! We kept at this for several months without anyone knowing, save for a few friends. During this time we managed to get the following items up onto the beam:
Several pens
Multiple rubber bands
Approximately $0.55 in coins.
A small Irish Creme coffee creamer cup (unopened)
A pencil
Soon thereafter my partner in crime was let go (for reasons that were both bullshit and entirely unrelated to our little game) and although I tried to carry on in his absence, I was only able to score a few rubber bands on the ledge. Months later, on the day that I was let go (for similar reasons), one of the execs noticed a pen hanging precariously on the ledge of the beam as I was cleaning out my desk. She instructed an intern to get a large stick and start removing things from the ledge. She asked me if I knew what/why things were up there, and I simply smiled and said, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
The last image of that place I have now are a few pens and a coffee creamer cup falling from the ceiling as I walked out to my car."
